Foods that Give you More Energy

We live in a fast-paced world full of chaos…and that mid-afternoon energy slump. Most of us feel run-down at some point during the day. And there’s no denying that what we eat will have us feeling bright-eyed and energized, or down in the dumps.

All foods should give you energy, but some are better at keeping you full, focused and energized throughout the day. Here are a few of my favorite foods known for putting a little pep in your step.

Foods that boost energy

Bananas

Bananas are a cheap and easy pick-me-up. They contain healthy sugars that provide an instant energy boost and serve as an excellent pre-workout snack.

Salmon

Wild salmon is an amazing superfood. It is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, healthy fats that boost brain function and provide you with long-lasting energy. Omega-3s are even great for weight loss! Read more about foods that help you lose weight.

Apples

Apples are packed with vitamins and minerals to keep you focused and energetic. They offer healthy sugars that provide a quick burst of fuel. Rumor has it that one apple gives you more energy than a cup of coffee.

Green Leafy Veggies

Leafy greens, like spinach, should be a diet staple. They contain tyrosine, a compound known to improve alertness and support active brain function. Want the greens but hate the taste? Try this Super Greens Powder in your morning smoothie.

Quinoa

Quinoa is packed with more protein than any other grain. It is rich in amino acids, making it the perfect snack for an energy boost mid-afternoon. The folate, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese support a healthy brain and leave you feeling energized.

Dark Chocolate

When eaten in moderation, dark chocolate helps increase alertness and attentiveness. A small piece is enough to get you through that mid-day slump. Make sure to eat dark chocolate with at least 60% cacao.
